Reasons for Stuck With School

Primary and secondary schools are underfunded.

The National Curriculum is outdated.

National assessments are narrow and cause disadvantage.

Discrimination against neurodiversity, disabilities and hidden disabilities is routine.

Rising rates of student stress and anxiety are unmanaged and uncontrolled.

Training and advice for teachers to recognise and support neurodiversity and hidden disabilities is inconsistent.

Teachers are overwhelmed, dealing with the effects of the mental health and cost of living crises in their classrooms.

Inequality is widening; neurodiverse children make less progress at primary school.   Neurodiverse young people pass less GCSEs and A-levels.

Waiting for professional diagnoses and access to suitable help.

Prevented from recognising and realising their potential.

Struggling to focus and learn.

Worried about homework and revision.

Lacking opportunities and resources to progress.

Marginalised by narrow academic measures.

Rejected for support if they don’t meet certain thresholds.

Unable or less likely to regularly attend school and engage with their peers.

Failed by an exam system that requires a third of young people to fail each year.

Fearful about their futures.

Demoralised by uphill battles with schools and Local Authorities.

Fighting to secure suitable alternative provision if their child or young person isn’t going to school.

Frustrated with a lack of accountability from professionals involved with their child or young person.

Confused by unclear Government guidance and policies.

Strained in their relationships, their jobs and with their finances.

Alone because there's so little support available to them.

Undermined or made to feel stupid if they insist their child or young person needs more help.
